Both from Canada booyah!
ASUS might have some good laptops in ur price range |
Might also want to go to Pricenetwork Canada to check the best price for the laptop in Canada
And Asus is pretty good. The only problem they have is their battery sucks. No more than 2h-2h30 on an OK laptop.
My recommendatiosn would be (in order) : Fujitsu/Acer/IBM/Toshiba/Asus
Fujitsu are the best for battery life. The 13.3 Lifebook can stay up to 4-5h on 1 battery! And also, the cd-dvd drive is hot swap and you may slide a second battery in the bay while the computer is turned on (hot swap!) so you get double battery life if you're planning a big trip Of course you have to buy the second battery, which is nearly 200$CDN, but I think this is a very cool feature that most laptops should have.
As for Acer you know my opinion
As for IBM, I used a Thinkpad T42 for a whole week at my job (I'm an IT during summer and winter) and the battery stays for about 3h30 4h in normal use. But man, the perfs on this laptop and any IBM laptops are pretty good. It's the most professional brand I've encountered in laptops. Plus, their customer service is top notch, but not as good as Alienware
Toshiba is okay. My girlfriend and many of my friends has a "A" serie and it's pretty good. About 3h of battery life with a P4 (which is very good regarding the power consummed by a P4) and perfs are very good too. If you want a laptop to play, I,ld recommend Toshiba because they're more desktop replacement than any other brand listed in my preferences. FYI, Toshiba has announced few weeks ago that they're working on a battery that will be able to get a P4 working for 8 hours and even if you charge up the battery 1000 times, the capacity will stays optimal (not like current batterys or AA rechargeables). And words are saying that the charge for this battery will be super quick, like 10 minutes = 1 hour.
Hope that helps a bit
