By the way Dell are generally seen as 'too cheap' by most people, in that they cut corners to sell at a low cost. I have never heard anyone call them expensive.

I got my new pc last december for just under £500, dell were offering a similar spec at more than double that, too many extras thrown in which experienced users dont need, the 'free' software & printers and stuff which were of no use to me

i have had 2 toshiba laptops, been very happy with both. the one i have now is good, bought it a year and a half ago. since i have upgraded memory to 512, but i only have 40 gig. it works for my purpose, student and downloading etc. i travel a lot so i needed a laptop. the only thing i dont like about it is this thing on my model. it is the bottom of it. it is uncomfortable to have on my lap. i think that is only fro my model.

anyway go toshiba, good value and a pretty good computer.

the CORe has spoken... lookin' like i might be goin' with toshiba. their rep precedes them elsewhere as well.

unfortunately i do need a laptop for post-grad studies. have a desktop (only couple years old) but i'm gonna be on campus more than at home.

i am def. not a ban of dell... their desktops are ok as long as you stay away from anything integrated, but i don't like much in what their laptops have to offer.

Dino - i can def see how a tablet would suck for prod'n... (out of curiousity, albeit something of a tangent, what progs you prefer for creation?)

Why buy a laptop after all

I agree with smokeape the only good advantage to a laptop is its portable and wireless ,unless your gonna be taking your home studio on the train, the bus,the subway, and the plane ,or you just happen to travel alot ,then id just stick with a custom made pc .
