My recommendations:
go for a Dell, acer or HP. Dell is my personal fav of the bunch, they make great machines.

Go for a Centrino based laptop, they are awesome with battery usage and come with wireless standard. And for graphics card Id recommend the Radeon, 9700 or the newer x700.

Same experiences. I used to sell Toshiba a few years ago, and the amount of returns, faults and dodgy workmanship, it was a god send to start working with Dell.

I'd say powerbook = win, but you said no 2 that. www.apple.com/switch

Is what I say!

hmm, i've narrowed it down to this:

Asus Z71V
• 15.4" WXGA or WSXGA+ TFT Wide Screen
• Intel Alviso915PM & Intel ICH6-M chipset
• PCI Express nVidia GeForce Go 6600 128Mb
• Pentium-M 750 1.86G 2M Cache 533MHz Sonoma Mobile CPU
• 512MB DDR2-533
• Battery - realisticly 2.5hrs [they think 3-6hrs]
• Weight - ~3kg

for ~$2,500

totally agree with u wade.

from my experience i wouldnt go with toshiba. ive gone thru many laptops at work and would have to say dell is the best. their support is excellent too.. they come out and fix it the same day!

i've got an acer atm cause i got it cheap thru work, but if i had a choice i would def choose a powerbook over pc anyday

Acers have been pretty good to me, I got a new one a few weeks ago (work leases them for us) and they are pretty good.
