have to agree. although I have never been to a real good show by Tiesto. his track selection bores me, and hes not all that technically sound, but hey........ hes the worlds best.
And yes, Armin blew that night at koolhaus, Nathan Barato was the only one that had me going that night. I think he's TO's best DJ (barato). I goto zone on occasion and systems ect. and I have never had a bad night with Barato at the decks. |
Did you go to the show he did at docks in June 2003?? That night was unbelievable and goes down as my fav party ever. If I were you, i would keep going to his shows. All DJs can be amazing one night, and crap another. Up until march/april, i was loving armin and ferry, then they were both a let down when they came to TO.
PVD, i havent liked much of the stuff coming from him, and i wasnt all that fond of his last set in TO last June. But just like Tiesto, all it takes is one night, when theyre on top of their game, and it will be a party to rememeber. All these Djs are capabable of throwing a party that will be HUGE. Its not always the case, but I'm not willing to miss it, so they're 'must see's' to me everytime they come to Toronto.

I agree that PVD is mad that he is not the number one. And honestly, I think that his music not as good as Tiesto's. Definately, PVD has some good tracks but overall he, in my opinion, does not deserve to be even the second DJ in the world. I think that DJ's such as Armin Van Buuren and Ferry Corsten are much better in their music and in their shows than PVD.
And who is G&D? |
Gabriel and Dresden. They have much talent behind the decks and in their bands Andain and Motorcycle. They have dones remixes for everyone from Tiesto to Britney Spears.

Most music is commercial. Most people have to pay see Tiesto, AVB, or G&D or to listen to their music (legally anyway). Therefore, it's commercial, even if only 1 person buys it.

hmm, i disagree
commercial is like pop music, britney spears an so on, stuff that gets into the general charts
so things like love comes again and shivers are commercial, but that doesnt mean tiesto or armin have gone commercial.
BUT, like you say, that is true legaly, just not the way we mean

Have you lost interest just because he's mainstream? So what if you didn't enjoy one of his sets. The man plays 100 plus gigs a year, everyone is not going to like all off his sets. I am a huge fan of Tiesto, but there are even some sets I don't much care for.
Hating on Tiesto itself has become so popular that it is now not cool to hate on Tiesto because it's the "mainstream" thing to do. THIS TOPIC HAS BEEN BEAT TO DEATH! See hundreds of other threads, please. Find someone else to hate on. Would you stop liking G&D if they became popular? Probably, and that's said. Who gives a shit whoe else likes the music you do? As long as you like it, that's all that matters. THINK FOR YOURSELF!
I have not heard G&D live, but they have some amazing tracks, as does Andain and Motorcycle. I have yet to see Armin either, so I cannot judge his performance. |
I think you're completely missing the point.
When I throw on a Tiesto track I can feel the skill involved in producing the quality of trance that he does and I don't "HATE" anyone in the world that has the courage to attempt to produce trance.
It is the very IDEA of a DJ going MAINSTREAM that I "HATE".
Therefore seeing 1,000 people attend a Tiesto event who don't even really know who he is and will never dig up any of his classic tracks and mixes, makes me sick. Compare it to spending years of your life studying a topic and then having some Shmuck come out of the woodwork one day, read one article on the topic, and now claim to be an expert in the field just like you. If that turns you on, so be it bud.
Personally, I enjoy listening to obscure trance tracks and sharing knowledge on them because I know the people i'm listening to the music with have an idea of what Trance is and desire it so much that they dig deeper than "Traffic". Live sets aside, I think a man or woman who can appreciate some good Ozgur Can, WhiteRoom, or GrayArea, has a higher spot in my book than an individual who loops Tiesto's "Just Be" and Ferry's "Rock Your Body Rock" perpetually on a mix disc in their Civic.
Thanks.
