I still have that essential mix. Still love it.
Sounded like quite the party
Best Parties Sly Guy has ever attended.
1. Closing party of Industry Nightclub with Danny Tenaglia.
Even before I was a funky dirty house fan, I knew this set was more than just special. Danny still talks about this night 5 years later. We still miss that club.
2. Summer's End 2001 at the Guvernment Nightclub, Timo Maas's set
was *vaguely* aware of Timo's production work going into the night, at the time I was blinded by my attitude of 'only ferry, tiesto or armin'. Dude had 1600 by the balls for 6 hours straight. Insanely hot, packed, but what crazy, twisted progressive chunkiness did he play.
3. Sasha and Digweed Delta Heavy tour 2002.
my b-day present from my sister was a $50 ticket to the kool haus to watch these guys play a couple days before they were in miami for their essential mix of the year. When they dropped 'age of love' the whole club felt like it was gonna fall apart. Played only until 4am, when they were pretty much forcably removed from the decks, to gasps of disbelief from the crowd.
4. Sander Klienenberg - Stereo residency Aug 8th, 2003
Waited for 2 years from his essential mix to hear the guy play in toronto, but because the one time he was in my town it was so poorly promoted, I got tired of waiting. Travelled 1500km roundtrip to montreal, didn't even get a hotel room because we'd be out all night. Hearing Sander before he was massively popular play dirty chunky heavy tracks on the best purely analog sound system in the world was out of this world.
5. Tiesto at Wintergalactic 2000 - Let's just say, for 6 hours, he delivered. I'm no longer an uplifting trance fan, but he did a good job. Download the set if you can find it. Oh, and Orkidea won me over as a fan that night too. And seeing Marcus Schultz struggle to beatmatch was entertaining as well.
6. NYE 2005, Boa-Redux
Morales, Superchumbo, Cevin Fisher, Saeed Younan, Demi, Chus & Ceballos....Nothing else need to be said but - if you can last 37 hours of a 40 hour straight new years party completely sober, you must really love the music.
Honourable Mention:
Don't know if it counts, but while I worked at the guvernment, I was slated to work a night of an all access event. They made me work the kool haus, the largest room in the building, with only one other person, so we were rediculously understaffed, and since I figured I was gonna quit anyway, I decided to enjoy myself that night. They set us up in a bar they weren't using, leaving the alcohol there, so I spent half the time on the dancefloor, and half the time serving free alcoholic beverages to myself and the best looking girls I could find. Green Velvet put out a massive live PA, Timo sucked, but Josh Wink carried the night.
