It has nothing to do with "roots" and "tradition". Big name jocks get tracks before they get pressed, so yeah they burn and use CD's.

And everyone knows getting hung up on a media type is childish.

they could have those tracks pressed to vinyl real easy. its not that big of a deal.

regardless, some of us do respect the traditional sound, feel, required skill etc etc associated with vinyl.

Those of us that spin both don't really see much of a difference as far as difficulty... Some people have this assumption that a CDJ does a bunch of stuff for you automatically, when it really doesn't do much more than a TT (looping, hot cues, storing cue points, are all minor conveniences).

And getting vinyl pressed in small quantities is absurdly expensive. And dub plates only last a few plays. So yes it is a big deal.

Live is a loop based sequencer with midi in/out capabilities.

On the input you can attatch anything from a USB DJ mixer, a midi keyboard or a midi controller such as a mixing desk, knob bank or anything else out there that transmits midi. These can be set up to use anything from effects like flangers, delays to the parameters on a synth.

On the output you can attatch hardware synths, samplers or VST (software) synths or samplebanks. You can also sync up audio tracks in one of its many (ie: more than two) channels. I think this is what all the fuss is about and why people see this as a threat to DJing or something?!?!

Its not that different from cubase or any other sequencer out there other than the fact that its incredibly stable and embraces a new ethos in music production and live performance. Its easy to use, very configurable and the workflow is unlike anything before it. Its
basically a jamming oriented audio production and playback facility that is stable enough not to stutter or choke on playback like a lot of other sequencers. Producers, especially amateur ones are ditching cubase in droves in preferance for it (me being one of them!!)

Every week in this forum, theres someone who has never looked it or even installed it freaking out that its the end of the DJ or some such bullshit. I usually find these are vinyl DJs who are just looking for some other piece of technology to lash out at. Frankly these people dont know what they are talking about and are just getting on the hype wagon. Who cares what Sasha is doing with it? There are a shitload more artists (particularly psy ones) out there using it to sequence up their performance with audio, live synths and samples and midi controllers. Frankly, I find that a whole lot more interesting than what some big jock DJ is doing with a couple of pissy audio tracks.

Live doesnt give a toss about DJs. Live is doing its own thing and will make its own mark on the EDM scene.

=)

for me VINYL, TIME CODED VINYL WITH SERAT0 SCRATCH, CDDJ'S AND USE OF ABLETON i think will do for the time being.

it certainly will not mean the end....
