direct recordings are lifeless, they do not represent the vibe of the night.
A live recording done in miami, boston or montreal would all sound the same... boring.
anyways its a matter of taste and i can tell you a majority of people prefer live with crowd recordings.
why not just have a set ripped from the mixer, but a mic to record some crowd noise over top? that way you get the best of both worlds.
To me the crowd recordings have no life. The music seems lifeless, and bland. Sure you get to hear the crowd, which i love, but in the end the music itself just doesn not shine through.

Well Sasha & Digweed @ Renaissance this year had really great sound quality and you could still hear the crowd, but i dont know what they used or what methods they used to record it

well, if i want to plug directly to the mixer, i will get refused 99% of the time. Plus I might piss off the dj royally just for asking.
If I do it without asking, then its an even bigger gamble, he could discover it during the night and get really furious which is a no no. (imagine a shortened set because of that, or a dj not wanting to come back to the club).
To record better in a club environment i would need better microphones and some specialized equipment which would cost more than... the already spent 600$ coming from my own pocket.
If you guys are willing to send some cash or equipments as donations then I will gladly use them the next time...
if not, then stfu and record your own stuff so we can bitch at them later on
