ok she just found out that my uncle's wife is an athiest and she's freaking out because my little cousin (he's like 3) isn't going to have "God" in his life and she just went on and on about how it's "WRONG" and "he needs to be brought up with some sort of belief system BLA BLA BLA BLA" which, i'm not saying i disagree with, but it's NOT HER KID, it's her nephew, and it's my UNCLE'S job to try to work something out with HIS WIFE and HIS SON...
i mean am i right or am i right?
god, she fucking thinks everyone in the world has to see things her way or they're wrong.
welcome to the bible belt.

I like to think the evolution stuff can fit in with the bible's story of creation, but thats an entirely different discussion

Yea but it appears to me that religion is rammed down their throats so whether they have the right or not, most usually end up feeling quite strongly about it anyway. I have met quite a few Americans over the last few years and a few of them seemed a bit shocked about the lack of seriousness with regards to religion we have. Other than weddings and christenings I have never stepped foot in a church in my life.
It's pretty much like that in all very conservative cultures though. Look at the less develloped countries of the middle east, for example.

yeah i feel stifled by the amount of religion around me sometimes, but i just remind myself that it would be a lot worse if i didnt live where i live. i think in some parts of the us religion is far more dominant than it is here. people try to push god on me more than i would like and i dont know if there is anything that offends me more.

alright well just as long as you know that my mother's sexual activity (or lack there of i should say) has nothign to do with this, i just found that comment out of left field and irrelevant.
yea she's totally being narrow-minded and i know plenty of you will agree, but my god...easy people! it's my mommy and she drives me nuts, but i still love her... have some respect please.

It would be interesting to compare the crime statistics between a country where religious beliefs are commonplace, and one where there is little
Im not inferring anything, just wondering

Of course, not all Christians are blind or close minded.
And what's so stupid about religion? Is it bad to promote peace?
And no. Religions don't start wars. Stupid people and propoganda do.
