for the kick i use samples (mostly), if i want something tribal i record it with real drums or a any decent sound module.

of those 2 i checked the electribe a while ago (all of them) and i didnt like it.

Depends on the genre.

If I want to make Trance, House, Techno, or something in that range, I use software synths like the ES2 or EVL DigiDrum.

I use samples for D&B/Jungle, Hip-Hop, or anything where I want to superimpose a fast beat over a beat at half-speed.

And for Symphonic and Ambient stuff, I use SoundFonts.

use fruity for yor drum sequencing.. either export it to a wav or throw in the good ol' fruity vst in yur host prog.
