what moves you in a track .....what makes a good track great for you .....

there is were you start.... for me i love classical soundtrack sounding strings so i just play around on keyboard until i get a string progression that moves me ( please dont do what a thousand other people do and get caught up with theory do what sounds good ure understanding of theory comes slowly be patience )then i love the authority of bedrock style progressive house so a heavy 4/4 and a live sounding percussion loop ....i personal dont use loops cau i dont want even one person on planet earth having the same loops as me
then the bass line a bit of reverb to add depth and power then i move on to fills.... loook to people like james holden who just make orginal fills and doesnt ure the stanard.

listen to a shit load of music..... ever style dont limit yourself to trance for example cau you are limiting your sound

Most often, I start with a melody, and a bassline pops out a few seconds later.

When doing breaks, though, I like to get a general feel for the groove of the track before setting out to make the breakbeat.

1. Drums and percussion first
2. Bassline(s) to fit into the groove of the drums
3. Melody that fits into the groove of the bassline that fits into the groove of the drums
4. Sub-Melody that fits into the groove of the melody that fits into the groove of the bassline that fits into the groove of the drums
5. FX

And in every step I will make my automation changes and various filters, and lightly mix the sounds with a good EQ module.

I just mess around with patches and drum samples... most of the time it doesn't lead anywhere but every now and then something interesting comes along.

It's mostly banging my head against the wall, so to speak.

For the tracks I've made so far, I've mostly started with either a chord progression (starting on either pads or bassline) or a melody. Different for each track, though.

step 1 : get ripped
step 2 : put on favourite tracks atm on the stereo
step 3 : go upstairs and start fucking around on the keyboard

works everytime!
