but other than that, i love the industrial sound, definatly big bass hehe, then when it all hits, sounds nice, i could hear something like this in a club, just need to work on a little mastering on the beats...
but still very good m8
keep it up

. The mastering is getting there. I've taken the reverb out of the some of the warm pads, and it does sound better even though the pad that comes in close to the beginning of the sample sounds slightly less like a violin than before. The track now is starting to sound a lot like The Freak - The Melody, The Sound (Flutlicht remix) with a psy edge. :P

Well, I did use about 10 Vanguard channels to make this track and did start from presets almost all the time to make them. However, I didn't find any of them to sound what I liked, so I did a lot of tweaking with the waveforms and ran it through a ton of fx to get the sound I wanted. I have a *ton* of Vanguard presets, and believe me none of them sounded like the lead as it was. For example, on the main lead I think I started with a saw pad preset and did some changes:
- made the sound less fat, took out some of the detuning, changed the filter, changed the attack, sustain and release
- used a soft compression, ran it through blood clock overdrive, added some slight chorus, delay, and reverb, and a few more fx.
This completely chewed up my CPU, so I had to end up exporting the sequence to .wav files alot . It turned out exactly how I wanted it to sound, though.

Fair enough if that's what you were aiming for (lol @ me recognising it being vanguard), but I just find synths that are de-fattened or not very warm to lack depth and as such dont sit in the mix as much as on top of it.

Yeah, good call on the vanguard spotting :P. Right now, the consensus appears that the lead is a bit too strong, so I've brought it down a bit in the current incarnation. You did recognize another thing that had been bugging me about the track: namely, that the mid highs are not that occupied. I've remedied that a bit in the current version. Originally I had a very similar melody (but gated) occupying the mid highs and I've sort of brought that back.
As soon as I get done writing part 2 for my thesis outline I'll actually write a good version of this to mp3 and put up an updated sample.

version is now updated: see the first post. I like this version better, though I'm sure it could still use some improvement. The sample is also much longer and is at 224 kbps instead.
