With all these different artists and remixes, how do you keep tabs of all the new stuff coming out? Moreover, if you're just getting into trance, how do you even catch up by getting to know all the stuff that has been releases over the past few years? If I had to make a tracklist now I wouln't even begin to know where to start. Sure I could pick 12-15 songs i like, but how do you know if its a good mix of new and old? It just seems a little much at times. |
It is a HUGE part of DJing. You can really get out of date fast if you let one or two weeks go by without checking up on the new releases. Great thing is, is most of these record shops have samples online, so that helps out. Also, all of the digital download sites like beatport, playittonight, and dancetunes have samples of the toons also. So that makes it alot easier. But like someother people said, I will buy a tune regardless of how old it is, if it is good. And ya wanna know my reasons for that. Ok, I'll tell you.
One, is because it is a good tune. Two, I love to support talented artists. Three, there is a HUGE chance that while you are spinning a set someone out there may of never heard that tune before. So what if all of us DJ's let all those slammin old tunes go by? Well, chances are that person will never ever get a chance to hear it. I use to think this DJ thing was all about me, but I was wrong. I am learning it is about other people. Trying to turn someone onto EDM that has never heard it before. Or playing that tune at the right time for someone when they can relate it to something that is going on in their life. Thats how I got turned onto and fell in love with it. So, my point is purchase tunes old, new or whatever based on the quility of the tune. Don't focus so much about getting out of date. I would still try to keep up on the new releases, but look at alot of the older releases too. You may find a treasure.
Rock On,
Mike
