but start of with vinyl aka Technics Mk2 and above, the nukmarks are nice TTs too

You don't really need a freaking cdj1000 or anything so soon. Check out the new cdj200, it plays mp3s aswell and has nice effects

Personally i don't think u'll need a cdj1000 as long as you have vinyls with you. Just my opinion, as i'll be more than happy with cdj200s or the ADJ cdi-500s with the scratch feature (not that i scratch or anything).

The DVJ on the other hand is another story!

I started on Vinyl, then moved to CDJ's for two reasons:

1. Economics of buying tracks (Uni Student = Little to no money the majority of the time)

2. Versatility and Innovation

I've just been lucky enough to learn a few things that make running 3 CDJ's more fun, creative, and stimulating than when I just had my 1200's...

To each their own though...

Not only will it provide you with hours of amusement and may actually answer your question, but you will realise how futile and pointless this dumb ass fucking debate really is. While your there, fire up DJ Lithium with a comment like "your grandma uses CD decks" or something stupid... and watch him go... its fucking hilarious...

I agree with this completely. i've mentioned it before but i'm thinking about selling my decks and getting cdj's. especially with all of the digital download stores that are springing up nowadays, where else can you get a dj-quality single without having to leave to go to the record store, or spend a shit-ton of money on expensive shipping from europe? that and you can record all the records you own, so you're not wasting money buying vinyl.

i didn't mean as you personaly are bashing the usage of cd players...
but there are the few outthere that simply refuse to consider swtiching from their trusty tt's. yes you may have your reasons...but remember it's all about the music.

anyhow dj lithium is a great dj, yes i read the sticy and yes he's hilarious when he bashes cd usage. but let's not forget he's been djing for ages...so you can't really teach an old dog new tricks


another point...the DVJ...that is just simply amazing...to bad it will cost you about 15 grand to get all the equipment. you need a specific mixer, and screens....etc great idea overall (i wonder what lithium has to say about them)

You can not spin Psy-Trance, and if you arte ware normal tranco come from Psy-Trance it was the beginning, and it's very complex music, maybe you just are not that smart to understand it.

I'm actually getting CDJ 800s in a few weeks. I got rid of my Numark TTXs and bought Technics 1210 MK5s last week, and I know this might sound crazy, but I took them back. I really wanted CDJs this summer as well, and I couldn't get both, due to lack of space for both and money. I have been buying less and less vinyl this past year and don't have the room or money to keep it up. I figured with online stores like AudioJelly and AnjunaDigitial, I could get high quality MP3s for less money and more of them than vinyl records. I've been really bored with playing the same tunes over and over, and just playing trance (which is what I mostly have) so buying and downloading MP3s for a little over a dollar a piece is a better deal in my opinion than spending 9.99 + 5.00 shipping for a record from DanceRecords.com. There are not many record shops around this area that sell trance and prog, mostly house and techno (detroit techno that is) and hip hop, so I have had to order the tunes I like online. Possibly in the future I'll start up again with Techs, or whatever else, unless CDs or Ableton Live takes over the DJing world...

And to add this is just a hobby for me so I personally think if DJing is your hobby, CDs are prolly the best bet, unless you have the money and the space for records. If your a guy like me living with your parents for now (i'm 20 and in college), having all this vinyl is costly and takes up space. Vinyl seems to not last as long as CDs and has to be cleaned much more often. My dad has CDs that are 16 years old that are scratched up and still sound great, while I have some records from two years ago that are slightly scratched up, and even with a high end cartridge (whitelabels) and cleaning the record with this GruvGlide stuff...it still sounded bad...don't get me wrong i love the feel of vinyl (and am missing it) but I had a lot of the songs i have on vinyl(or could have bought now online) on MP3, and have spent over a thousand dollars on records, and I only have about 160 records (could have had a thousand MP3s if AudioJelly or other stores like this were around two years ago!)

Using a Yamaha RM1X and Tractor DJ Studio and to be honest i like it better than the pioneer cmx-1000 cd players. You can hook up numerous different Midi Devices to Tractor. You could DJ on a midi Piano if you wanted.
