dj's are a dime a dozen nowadays...... top dj's are where they are, and expected to play the newest tunes and not mess up a mix because they are making thousands of dollars per gig, and are rannked the BEST of the BEST....... otherwise they wouldn't be getting paid that much money, or have the superstar status that they do

minor mistakes are fine, a total 'mare of a gig every once in a while is normal, but people who are just shit, and train-wreck all over the show, shouldn't be getting paid £1000s per hour to play.

having said that none of the "big" names are that bad, they all have a basic amount of skill, and most of the bufoons who slag these people off too much, have never once DJ'd in a club, on a big system that isnt set up like the nice familiar ones in their bedrooms with nice working monitors...

anyway in short, these people aren't "ruining the music scene" imo, coz I dont see whats so bad at the mo' ?!?

...yet another dance-music-armageddon prediction while the majority of us still do loads of clubbin and love the music currently

If anything, it's the opposite. DJs are often slated on TA for their faceless rotation of the newest slop off the Epic production line, rather than finding an individual sound and exploring it. Such narrowing of standards, which caters to the casual at-home listener rather than the veteran base, is the problem, not people who are honestly calling a spade a spade.

I really don't care how old of a record the DJ plays so long as it's used toward a distinctive set as a whole. Nevermind the incredible diversity and depth of past music that has gone without lasting recognition, and could easily be played today without a whit of difference to the audience.

The Orkidea set posted on the TA downloads page offers a prime example of what trance DJs should be capable of.

BS. As someone said already, DJs are a dime a dozen. If a DJ can't stay at the top of his game, there are plenty of other talents who ought to fill the place.

Surely the job of a dj is to get people enjoying themselves and dancing?!?! Who cares what djs should be capable of technically, If someone plays good music then they are doing there job properly.

When did I ever say that technical skills were of most importance? They help -- and top DJs should be technically polished without qualification -- but set construction and track selection is at least as important to being a talented DJ. Orkidea's set represents this aspect very well. I wasn't holding it up as an example of technical prowess; there are plenty of Detroit techheads for that.

I guess I was unaware that the best way to get people dancing was to put together a bland set of disposible McProg and half-assed Epic, which sounds exactly the same as the next jock. I vaguely seem to remember a better way to work a set for the crowd.

Marco V played a number of old tunes at sensation and so far I've not seen him being slated. Quite the opposite in fact

when we talk about sensation, why the f*** was dj jean doing there?
think that made alot of true trancelovers stay home!

Totally agree.

Mayb its because of the endless amount of internet radio shows or something but nearly all trance mixes of late sound like listening to local commercial radio. The problem is they all sound indisquishable from one another since they are playing the same 10 or so newest tunes.

The worst offenders are the ASOT and AvB taw who i would guess are thinking more about their new realeases promotion rather than making an interesting dj mix.

Play anything enough and people will 'like it'. Has radio and mtv and the crazy frog not proved this
