Both this and the Amen Break video were interesting, but that guy's voice is just so boring.

It's very ironic to know that the thing costed about 400 dollars back then. While I now simply switch to the right bank and select the right patch for it on my Juno-D synthesizer, which costed me about 600 dollars

By the way: There's also a OTHER very interesting video "Can I Get The Amen?", about the usage of the legendary "Amen Break" played by the Winstons. It shows the rise of the breakbeat & jungle culture.

I think - with those people - it's just between the ears. Sure the sound can be digitally reproduced and controlled in other intruments who have the 303-sound in their banks, with no difference whatsoever
I believe it's just the feeling that people get when they're behind such thing. Nostalgic and inspirational.

there used to be a site around comparing all the clones with the TB itself.. it had sound samples of the same pattern being played on all the clones and the TB itself.
mostly, besides the excellent circuitry in the 303 (which can't be bought in quantities of less then 20,000 these days) the hardest thing to replicate, is the slide function.

i believe nothing replicates the tb303's sound exactly, some clones do get close though.

the bottom line though, is i wouldnt buy a tb (the pricetag is too high), i'd buy this clone, i love the sound of it, and the interface seems easier then that of the tb.

check out what sven dedek managed to pull off with just two of those units and a 909.. under klang on that site

Amen video gave me chills. 6 seconds of music that changed history. AMAZING.

The 303 video could have given a little more time to the early years. I would have loved to have been more educated on the beginings of the use of the 303 in acid house.

aah how times have changed.... there was a time when you could pick up a 303 for the price of a pint of milk- they were that worthless.
A good producer friend of mine swapped one for a six pack of beer many many moons ago- and hes kicked himself ever since.

The thing that makes the 303 unique is the slide and the accent- clones come very very close, but not quite there. there is a distinct difference between the real thing and a clone!

Closest sound wise you will get is probably an Mc202 (again roland vintage) which will set you back about 1/4 of what a 303 will set you back, but it has the biggest motherfu*cker of a sequencer to use- possibly why its not as highly regarded.

I would love to see another one of these videos, But this time about the drum machines, The TB303 is just for making basslines and such, But it wouldn't work without a drum machine attach to it.
