Obviously if you're on a contract and not billing the company for time you spend goofing off, then you're free to goof off any way you want, as much as you want.

As for the other posts though, the problem is that hardly anybody who surfs TA at work goes on for 5 minutes twice a day. They stay on for hours and hit the refresh button every 10 seconds. It's clearly obvious by the pattern and frequency of their posts.

That's what this whole article was about... a 5-minute break is good for productivity, but it's not good when you spend more with distractions than you spend with your work.

This is quite true!! You cant argue with this!

I dont even like how much I post on TA during the day... but I dont have motivation as of yet to want to force myself to quit it. Its slow enough in the summer that it's not really an issue.

However, since I don't smoke and don't take smoke breaks (or just about any breaks for that matter) a simple 4-5 min. surfing TA is actually a break for me...
The irony....

4-5 minutes becomes 15 and ........ to be honest a lot of the internet is a waste of time,

eg wait for the file to load, website to load, msn, and of course the refresh button for TA

Well written article but unrealistic imo....Measures such as 'E Mail free day' or 'Checking Email x amount of times a day where x=2' will not only make one counter productive but will also lead to getting fired....Corporate world these days rely on IM and E-Mails so much that, it's literally impossible to not attend to these things unless one day everybody decides to dump the Net era altogether.....

cheers
