Hey. He never said he was looking for a large capsule condensing microphone. He was asking what our opinions of such microphones are and what we recomend.

Hmm, ya you might be right about that
sorry.. But id still vote against the dynamic stage mics for studio work. The reason is the freq response.. and the dynamic range ofcourse.

Get a $100 dynamic cardioid mic coupled with some good quality gear/software (preamp, amp, vocal processor, eq), and you will be very pleased with the sound. Trust me .

I used to do that. For instance, theres no point in trying to bring out the higher frequensies from a sound recorded with a poor mic when there just isnt anything to boost.. and so the sound is destined to be a bit dark and muffled. The sm58:s freq response looks like it would have a lowpass filter on it at 10khz, which isnt good if you want clear good sounding vocals or guitars, or whatever you are recording. But dont get me wrong, sm58 is from the better end of the dynamic mics(i havent used it) so it might be worth checking too. And ofcourse price is always a factor too
My advice is to buy a good mic and save from the processing side(they cost a LOT you know).

There are large diaphragm condenser mics available for that price. No point buying the SM58, unless it's used for live stuff (which is not the case here).
