The reviewer obviously hasn't done his homework. AVB produced some mind-blowing stuff in the past when he was younger, his own stuff AND remix work. The sentiments about this particular album may be true (I haven't heard it so I don't know), but to say "stick to what you do best" is BS. And its not a "Transition into the studio" becaue he's been producing since he was about 14, correct me if I'm wrong?
i don't think many can argue that armin doesn't have the potential to be a great producer, but what he's been producing the last 2-3 years is just crap. and what's worse is that he actually thinks he's improving or obtaining some great level of artistic expression...

I agree I don't like much of what he's done lately (except for "shivers", and the KvA mix of some vocal track last year (forgot the name ), and "slipstream" and "another day" and "from the heart"). I just think the total lack of a mention of his production-past, as if this is his first batch of tunes ever, shows that the reviewer really didn't know his stuff...

lol.. well you don't expect him to say the opposite, do you? "i've been really going downhill as a producer lately... pick up my new cd!"
i liked the remixes armin did 5 years earlier... haven't heard his new cd yet, but as of late he hasn't been my cup of tea. i'm not discounting him as good at what he does though, just not my taste. others will disagree, obviously...

Hey now!!! dammit jason! your predictable! i knew you would say something about this
anywho... Shivers is an alright album, the best out of this whole cd imo would be ZoCalo! The rest of the this cd is pretty chill cept for control freak and serenity. but its not that bad.
I mean i know Armins production has gone downhill a bit, comparing to communications, blue fear, sound of goodbye etc etc... not including all his great remixes in the past too.. but he's still one of my all time fave djs because of the fact that he's been around for such a long time and still keeps up with his ASOT show even though he didnt have to, and that when you see him live, he's never f*cked up and always smiling! sooo those oare my 2 cents

I couldn't agree more with the BBC's review. I first heard Shivers about a month ago, and when I listened to it, I was like "this is Armin?" I've listened to it numerous times, and every time I hear it, I have the same feelings about it. Armin has produced some amazing tracks and done some incredible remixes, as for this album, its just not what I personally like to hear from Armin.

exactly - if you want to talk about being in the business a long time think more along the lines of sasha, digweed, nick warren etc. - now those guys have been around the block a few times more than armin

+1
and I add his remixes of riva - time is the healer and moogwai - viola...
but since `"76" I lost my respect for Armin productions... sorry.

lol i just mentioned those guys in my previous post! funny but im not trying to be stubborn or anything, i just think its rare for producers to keep coming up with new things.
