i would like to add another "stuttering" effect question.

the sample is taken from sasha's fundacion intro.

is this a special plugin or just plain time stretching?

This effect is more than a simple gate.
Some very small part of the voice is looped.
I don't know if there is a vst to do this easily, I never had to do this myself.
Try beat slicer if you have FruityLoops.
If you are brave you can do it with Cool Edit Pro or else!

BT does that alot but I have no real idea as to how they do it. My guess would be timestretching but that's just a very wild guess, try BT's own forum and ask if anyone knows

Hey. That effect is called granular synthesis. Its a type of time stretching but its done in such a way that it sounds stuttered. Essentially, the plugin will take the sample and according to your settings, cut it into little milli- (or micro-) seconds and play the sample back streatched through a (usually) defined section of time. The difference between it and gating is that each grain (unless otherwise defined) has a perfect trapazoidal envelope and a gate is usually on and off with no smoothing. I think it was mentioned that FLS has one which is correct, called the granualizer (though it isnt the easiest to use). My recomendation if you are looking for this type of effect is check out this page. You might also want to check out this page for some more information on the synthesis technique.
