Re: Re: Re: Re: Christian Orthodox Forum/Info
| quote: | | The main ways to cure the passions is prayer and fast. Orthodox Christians have official fasts several times a year, however the fast is thought to be not of a imposing food restrictions on yourself, but refraining from “unclean” desires, which darken our hearts. These are, for example, the addiction to hang out, to TV, to computer, to flat jokes, etc. Generally, during the fasts married Christians are supposed to refrain from sex, however this is not that strictly pursued. Another means of achieving cleanness of heart, and mind as well as rejoice and happiness, is prayer. It is generally thought that no other activity brings people closer to God than prayer, and it's best to pray as much as people can. |
Always was interested in the religious notion of fasting. How bizarre.

Anyway, the primary difference between the greek ortodox church and other ortodox churches (russian, serbian, etc.) is that the greeks do accept the pope as their supreme infallible leader. They are considered orthodox because they still have standard orthodox rituals like marriages, growing beards, etc. |
LOL!

oooh, so quick to attack. what i meant was, orthodox, means traditional. catholicism is thought be the traditional church since it was the only one until martin luther. maybe i was overthinking myself. because protestantism is now orthodox, the norm, traditionally held belief now.
of course i know about greek orthodox and russian orthodox, etc. i dont know their specific beliefs that make them a unique denomination, but i know who they are.

No it wasn't. The catholic and orthodox church split up back in 1054, while Luther's secession happened in 1517.

Erm, no. Maybe in your area. Catholic church still holds about 53% of all christians, while protestand and orthodox have only some 17% and 11% respectively. http://www.faqs.org/docs/factbook/fields/2122.html (scroll down to world average)

Well, they are what you officially call orthodox. Since you're always in these religious discussions, it wouldn't do you any harm to research something about them, especially considering your hard religious stance and the fact that they are of the same faith as you.
