I just turned 25 and have been thinking the same thing for awhile.

I've decided to give myself another 2 years, pay down my undergrad student debt, and go back to school to do what I really want to do.

Having that goal makes the present job a bit more bearable, because I know it's a means to an end.

The one thing I noticed that really accelerated my wanting to change things up is this one inevitable truth.

I was working for a company, and at first the job was purely technical, allowing me to actually do all the things I was interested in. As I continued to progress up the ladder, I found myself moving away from the things that I liked about the job, and constantly doing things that can only be classified as middle management.

I've got a few other friends that are starting to encounter this as well, and it kinda sucks, because they're really starting to get to the same point I am.

The whole annoying thing about this is that if you want to make a decent amount of money doing what you like, unless you run your own business, it usually involves you getting away from what you like doing because you end up spending most of your time trying to get people to approve or do what should be done. I think that's what really started to wear down on me, the constant heel dragging and personal agendas that always make it difficult for the guys and gals that just want to do their jobs well.

I would be very interested in seeing this. I've got 1 other friend ready to quit his job, and another that started her career, and then realized that it wasn't what she wanted and went back to school. I know I'm not the only one, but I really have to wonder is it normal for us to become this jaded so early?

I dunno... I've done lots of jobs over the last few years. Everything from a hard goods sales associate @ Sportcheck to Test Engineer for a military software developer. Currently I'm studying architecture @ UoT and intend to go to law school (if my marks hold up). I'm also the promotions manager and event coordinator for a large promotions/productions company (nightclubs, concerts, car shows, etc...) and I'm only in my early (very early) 20s. So I dunno what the future holds but I'm probably never going to be able to work a job with a boss with less education than me that's for sure.

I say go with what you like to do and figure out how to make it big.

Note: Of all the jobs people I know have, the best one yet seems to be "Wealth Management" aka "Born Rich and invest daddies money well after he dies" ya that seems to be the best one I've seen so far... Not sure how to land that job though... Something to ponder.
