i would suggest the vestax vmc line. i feel that they offer the best in terms of sound/build quality for the price. they are pretty stripped down and basic compared to other mixers that are available for the same price, but at least it's solid, and sounds good.

i'm using the vmc-004 right now. i have 2 master outs, and they can be controlled individually.

I had that mixer till I got my stanton. I used to record from my amp instead. Use the headphone jack if the amp doesnt have a dedecated line out.

im guessing here your using an amp and monitors for sound output and not the lappy. As for sound recording software try here

and this one has two master outs? and it looks like this one connects to your USB and not your "line in" on the back of the computer?

It has a master out and a record out.

You also have the option of plugging it into your computer directly through USB so you don't have any issues with Line In etc but you can still record through line in using the record out if you prefer that.

come on...

Get TWO RCA to Mini Stereo cables.
Output to your computer's line in.
Output from your computer's speaker output to your amp/speakers/wherever you'd plug the mixer into.

then google 'Goldwave', use that to record your set.

done and done.

there's one thing you might want to take a look at....when you record make sure that you don't overdue the input into the computer b/c then it wont' record anything...
i recall last time i recorded something i had to have the volume from my mixer that was running into the computer/laptop almost at minimum so it won't overdue the software and be to powerful (loud...).

if you don't run into that while spliting you should be fine...if you do run into that...see if the software you are recording into has the option of having the speakers out ...and use the computer also as an output for your monitors.

if all else fails...got spent $200 and get a mixer with 2 outputs...

I'm getting the DXM01 USB mixer. There is an option to buy it with two USB cables (for 2 channel mixing it says). So im assuming that I have to buy the two cabled option if I plan on laying a set down?

Its confusing because...wouldnt everyone HAVE to get the 2 USB cables in order to record? I have a USB port on the front and back of my computer. So I hope it is going to work hooked up like that. For some reason I see something just not working.

That's why you use the MASTER output and control the levels with not only your computer device, but your MASTER volume control, and you don't have to turn the gains way down.

i cant output two rca cords to one line in. plus i'd ahve to get splitters to even do that on the nubbish mixer i have now. ive decided with the usb numark one. i just need to know whether i have to go with the 2 USB cord package or the single.

...
splitter/joiner/whatever.
it's a connector that will turn your RCA output into an input your computer accepts. then you just output to your amp/speakers the same way. you can go buy your USB numark if you want... wait for shipping... and probably pay more, when you can have it done in an hour by going to radio shack.

*shrug*

LoL
