Well most 12" versions of tracks have a long intro and outro so it's not normally a problem, but even with little or no intro and outro these things can still be mixed... it's just a little bit harder and often involves a bit of imagination!
Or sometimes the DJ might make an extended version of a track with no intro/outro before they play it out.
I personally use looping (particularly on the DN-X1500) for an effect (stuttering and beat cutting kind of sounds etc) and to make a loop of a secondary track to play over parts of a main track, to add a bit here and there... very rarely use it to extend a track
