What an ignorant statement.

LCD's have a smaller foot print on the desk but the colouring, shadowing, dead pixels, trailing, among other things aren't just worth it in most cases.

There's such a wide range of quality on LCD's from the worst to the semi best .... and they are also very imprecise.

Crt's are unfortunately still the norm for quality, unless you have serious money for high end LCD.

What he said. Plus, LCDs bug me for some reason. So what if they're smaller in size? I'd sacrifice desk-space for quality.

A couple of months ago I upgraded from a shitty 12" monitor to a 19" NEC MultiSync FE992. It's fucking gorgeous.

I have a Samsung 19" lcd that replace my old 17" crt. This what i've learned:

1. for color and sharpness crt is still the best.
2. lcd can come close but you need to run it in its native resolution and fine tune brightness/contrast settings.
3. go to a store and look at the actual lcd before buying it that way you'll know exactly what your getting. There are now quality lcd that have fast refesh rate (no ghosting) and acceptable sharpness.
4. If your a designer, you can't get too concerned with the quality because your final output and color is never what you see on your monitor. If its on paper then the printer will determine final look and for the web, the viewer will be using his own monitor.

Like someone else said after using an lcd for a while you get use to the look of it. In the last analysis whether an lcd is good enough is a subjective matter that only you can determine for yourself. If your happy with crt then stick with it, there's no shame in being not as cool as us lcd users.

no lcd will beat a crt at present time. i got a viewsonic vp171b lcd monitor which is pretty decent quality but it still doesn't compare to my crt espically when playing dark games like doom 3. if u have xbrite coating on ur lcd monitor which comes on some sony & nec's last time i checked it does make a definiate improvement on dark games.
