It's too small. They can easily bang out a packed Crobar house. I've never been to Cielo, but it's small. Very small. Swedish House Mafia deserves a big venue. |
It wasn't too small for James Holden, James Zabiela, Steve Porter, Danny Howells, Dave Seaman, to name a few that I've seen at Cielo in the past 12-14 months. If it's on a Thursday, it's actually not that crowded, and everyone there is there for the music, which makes for a much more enjoyable crowd. Don't have to worry about tons of crackies knocking drinks out of your hands, etc.
You're right, they could fill up Crobar. That doesn't mean that every time they CAN fill up a space, they should automatically play at the largest venue that they could fill. If size were the most important aspect DJs looked at when selecting a performance venue, we'd all still be going to Exit.
If you've never been there, reserve judgement on the venue until you have. Here are a few reasons that The Swedish House Mafia may have chosen it:
-Winner, "Best Venue USA", Urb Magazine 2005
-Winner, "Best Club", Clubworld Awards 2005
-Winner, "Best Resident DJ", Francois K. For his Deep Space
@ Cielo, Clubworld 2005
-Winner, "Best Club", Dancestar USA 2004
-Winner, "Best Interior Design Club/Lounge", Clubworld 2004
-Finalist, "Best Design Bar/lounge", Gold Key Awards 2004
As my sex therapist tells me, "it isn't about size, it's about intimacy."

crobar nyc:
~ Winner - "Best Super Club" Clubworld 2005
~ Winner - "Best Interior Design" Clubworld 2005
~ Winner - "Best Lighting System" Clubworld 2005
~ Winner - "Best Video System" Clubworld 2005
~ Finalist - "Best Club" Dancestar 2004
~ Nominee - "Best Club Venue" Dancestar 2005

cielo's outstanding, but crobar's no slouch -- it's like the weight-divisions in boxing...
