It's been like that for a long time. I don't think I can recall Frankie Knuckles being referred to as DJ Frankie Knuckles, but then I did miss out on the first ten years of DJ culture. Plenty of time to loose the 'DJ'.

Why is it done? To be taken more seriously as an artist, naturally. After all, it's not like you see other musicians placing their practice in front of their names all the time. It'd be funny if they did, though.

and if there was any specific reason for removing, "DJ" from the title.

I noticed Armin Van Buuren did that a long time ago - originally being called "DJ Armin Van Buuren" [i have some live sets where he was introduced as that as well], and now it's just Armin Van Buuren [no DJ]. again, any particular reason?

any other DJ's who eventually dropped the "DJ" and just became something else?

I think the reason is that the most DJ´s nowadays also producers aswell..........

so the scene had changed too!

Look around how many DJ´s are producing tracks............

btw. it seems to be that you have only success when you´re producing good tracks too...........

I think that´s really sad.........

He mentioned in an interview that "Tiesto" is his producer name...and "DJ Tiesto" is his performer name...but he much prefers "Tiesto" so he will prolly be sticking with that from now on.

Doesn't the name "DJ Tiesto" imply that he should know how to beatmatch?
