honestly for a dj to really truly fake a performance would be more work than doing it live

if he was being watched by someone who knows something about djing... this mime dj would have to fade in at the exact same time as the pre recorded mix... eq at the same time... swap basslines at the same time

and on and on and on

if i found out that any dj (professional or not) was "miming" his/her performance i would be personally offended
and if word got out that a professional dj did something like that... it would put the integrity of this industry under great scrutiny and question

people would start doubting the credibility of this phenomenon of the "superstar dj"

you will hear your mix unravel in headphones before the crowd hears it over the speaker system when mixing live. no mater how loud it is. therefore you will alwasy have a small 'cushion'. if you record yourself mixing, and there was a part where you struggled, play that part on your stereo. unless you really messed up, it will not sound as bad as you remembered it. listen to that section again through your headphones, and you will notice your mistakes more than you did when you listened to it out the speakers just a couple of moments before.

this reminds me of the time i saw oakenfold last year.. or maybe the year before..? anyways

he was mixing so/so.. no trainwrecks.. and one time during the set he sat back and threw out the god pose.. (i know everyone talks shit and says he throws it out all the time, but i'm serious) and no joke, while he was standing there, hands away from the decks, the song transitioned to the next one.

at the time, i thought, "wow! he beatmatched and programmed the tracks so well that he didn't even have to correct or eq to pull off that transition!!!"

but now that i think about it... he could have very well just busted out a mix cd. i can't remember for sure, i was pretty fucked up..

and anyways, he ended up start/stopping TWICE! that night.. and then he left the stage abruptly a half hour early. it was an odd night.

maybe he had the runs

anyway i suppose it is possible to do a "full" transition with no hands

provided they are beatmatched

it would have to be an instance where (for example) the incoming track was at "full eq" and the outgoing track was equed appropriately so the tracks sounded nice together
now... if the outgoing track was on an outro where the track fades out phrase by phrase in its original form it could very well seem like what you just described

either that or he played a pre-recorded mix

there was rumours goin about that he uses cd's with about 3 songs mixed together on each cd, so he only has to mix them every 3 songs!

dont know if theres any truth behind it though.
