I'm in the market for a 4 channel mixer too, and the DNX1500 is what I've been eyeing.
I choose to stay away from the Ecler mixers cuz they don't have enough metering. (I'm an audiophile that loves knowing how loud things are by visual cue)

Are the upfaders on the dnx1500 delayed becasue they're digital??

I would grab the A&H Xone92 on the condition that I have loads of cash to drop.

You everyone here is saying that the 1500 is great, but if they had more $$$ they'd get the A&H 62 or 92.. but what i dont understand is that if they upgraded from the X1500 to a Xone, they're gonna lose all the digital effects and the sampler??? Is the assumption then that they are gonna upgrade for an extra $800 and then drop another few hundred on an outboard effects module?

Is the A&H really that good??

Yes. And I would rather have the filters than any amount of onboard effects. However, I already owned an EFX-500 when I bought my Xone:92.

as for the delay and getting used to it? fuck that. ur paying a shitload for this mixer, least they could do is get the faders correct!! wtf!! essentially in the perfect mixer it just does. you dont even think about machine defects or setbacks. u just mix and do. pure chemistry. i think thats why so many people love the xones.. its all right there and theres not a fuck up to name( i dont think ), unless its a personal opinion.

Yeah, the Xones are simple and are quality. However, you PAY for that quality. The Denon offers a lot of bang for the buck. Something like the Nuo 5 is still several hundred dollars (USD) more than the DN-X1500 if you search around. It is likely the better mixer, however.

There are still rumours floating around that the next SW update for the DN-X1500 will reduce channel fader delay. Although it annoys some, I honestly don't notice it when I'm mixing.

But yeah, I'm still waiting to get the Xone. I've never used the sampler on my DN-X1500 (other than to play with it), and the effects get a little tired minus the filters...

neither do i my faders work very well. that mixer does everything i need it to do.

The lag is so minimal....

bang for your buck... fun fun mixer. Soon there will be another update for it, and maybe even some new effects.

Keep in mind the DN-X500 and X900 are coming out. They are 4 channel 4U 19" rackmountable mixers that have pretty much everything the X1500 has minus the effects. I'm probably going to buy the X500 as I'm in college and need to rackmount my stuff to make it more portable.

Why not just get the rackmount kit for the DNX1500?

Its complicated dude, I've been trying to make it work for awhile now. The X1500 with rackmount kit takes up 8U + another 3U for my DN-D6000 means I need a rack thats 11U on top and 2U (for the drive) on the bottom. Most racks go up to 10Ux4U, the only 11U one being a $250 40lb case from Odyssey.

Soooo long story short I'm probably going to get the X500 (it doesn't have the upfader lag, I just asked on the Denon forums) and get one of the cheap SKB cases that are 8Ux2U. The money I make downgrading from the X1500 I'll put towards an effects unit.

Does anyone know of a cheaper alternative to the Allen & Heath VF-1 filter module? I LOVE the A&H filters but I'm not about to spend $600 on it (more than my mixer!)

you can look for an ELECTRIX FILTER QUEEN...if you can find one. Chec ebay!

As for 4-channel FX mixers, I'd go for an ECLER NUO5 or A&H XONE:62 or 92. I've played with the DNX-1500...it does offer a lot of bang for the buck, but I'm just not a fan of how it feels, and its a bit complicated (changing some settings requires going thru numerous software menus, when on some mixers, its just a simple switch or button).
