Noobs should be restricted to just the stickies for at least a month, so they can absorb all the info. I am up for it, heheh. Or, just read instead of posting.

this forum needs stickies like 'the fight against oomp-a-itis'- that thread was actually useful and had a tonne of resources for people to use. vote to get that restickied. would hopefully solve a load of 'how do i make this bassline?' threads. would help if the title was changed to something more obvious though. like 'want to make trance basslines? click me!'

| quote: | The stickies we have are useful, there are just too many of them. It's psychological - when there are one or two stickies, they demand attention, but when there are 10 of them, they seem to be "in the way" and ALL get ignored.
We don't need to add more stickies about every common question - we need to have *one* thread with all the common questions that links to the other useful threads/pages. That's the only possible way to keep things organized. |
i see where you are coming from but squeezing all the frequently asked questions and answers + tutorials and such into 1 thread...
it would be about 900 pages long, of which, your average forum newbie would probably read the first, maybe also second page, then give up and post a topic like 'how do i make this fat sound like ferry corsten uses in all of his tunes?'
ive got a tutorial on the basics of music theory in the works and it currently weighs in at 8 pages, single spaced and its not finished. i think that would at least clear up a tonne of 'chord progression' questions.
the 'oompa itis' thread was awesome because everyone who asked how to make a bassline just got directed to that sticky. then it got unstickied and we had to answer all the questions again
then theres the questions about VSTs, which ones are good? which synth can make a sound like
for organisations sake it just makes sense to have 1 sticky on music and composition. 1 on mixing and sound designing. 1 on mastering etc. all with really clear names like: 'the all purpose sound design thread'
all respective questions/comments/appendixes to be put in those threads. when they get bloated to about 800 replies it could be unstickied and a new one called 'the all purpose sound design thread 2' could be stickied. everyone knows the thread name so its easily found.
i dunno.
that or sub forums like on audiopioneers.net. thats a really clean layout and its easy to find stuff there.

Very good point, but I still think if the main post is just an index with links to tutorials like yours... it would never be more than a few pages.
so it wouldn't matter if all the great posts were not sticky'ed as the one post that is has the links to all of them listed under the question.
by the way.. I look forward to that chord progression tutorial, nice work!!
