Try the Mackie forum on SR (Sound Reinforcement) Speakers for many posts about 450's and maybe ask there:

My friends and I use the Mackies for small venues, but we run a JBL and a Mackie sub at the same time. Those SRMs are the best speakers I know of for small parties, but I wouldn't run them without a sub. You need that bass!
