surely because that is not too far from what I have lol
Anyways, I got this game about a week ago and have been playing it but not as much as I would other AoE games. First off, for those of you played Dawn of the Modern world or Rome: Total War then you are familiar with the zoom option to zoom in onto your map and soldiers and stuff like that. For some stupid reason, AoE III can barely do that and it doesn't zoom close enough to have a nice look at a charging cavalry or anything breath takign like that.
Then we can go into graphics. Some of the graphics look beautiful but some look very old and plain and you could have a hard time believing you're playing a third installment of AoE especially near the end of 2005 since it lacks in graphics compared to alot of strategy games that may have came out over a year ago. Don't get me wrong, the scenery in the game is beautiful, the water looks simply amazing, the buildings you destroy fall apart realisticly, but it's just some aspects of it that makes it a bit lackluster.
What set AoE apart back in the day was the amazing Campaigns menu. Where you can play many different civilizations and follow a story of great warriors and conquerers. Nevermind that. Now you play one family tree, with a hero from different times. So you progress throughout the ages by going from great grandfather to grandson to grand daughter. It's not as bad as first because you even change what civilization you're from for whatever reasons every chapter when you go ahead into the future to the next generation. Doing this however, requires you to take some time to learn the units and stuff like that all over again.
The home city option is a kick ass tool at your disposal. It sens you shipments every certain ammount of time, to help your "colony" or "settlement" or "base" out. Stuff, like gold barells, food, setllers, soldiers, cannons, etc could be transported to you and you get to customize what you can send and when and all that.
Overall, definatly a worthwhile game that you'll definatly enjoy. Much different from the other AoE games but easy to get used to and definatly fun to play
8.7 out of 10
