saying 1999 was best for epic supersaw trance would probably cause less conflict

heh.

It's true what they say: you never forget the first time you're exposed to something. Law of diminishing returns states that it takes twice as hard to get the same amount of enjoyment through subsequent exposure. It's like riding on a roller coaster. The first time is the most exhillarating. The 50th time...not so much.

The stupid thing about this is after 50 rides or so, you're complaining that the first ride was the best....when it's exact same roller coaster!

My advice: GET OFF. Try another ride.

I was about to say something to this affect but obviously Ishkur beat me to it. I started listening to trance around 1992/1993 so obviously for me, the best sets are from around that period

Point is, this discussion isn't really about what year was the best (in the short lifespan of trance), but rather about when you started listening to it.

lol, true.

2003 and 2004 were probably equally if not more enjoyable for me since that was when i started clubbing/taking drugs respectively. i guess the same principle applies though... it's something new each time. still got a few more years on the clock for me i think.

I don't think you can generalize that statement for everyone. I started listening to trance in '98/'99. Heard a lot of awesome productions and livesets in that year and the following years, but I still love trance as much as I did in "my early years". Best liveset : Tiesto In Concert 2004 (BE). Moderation is the key.

This is why Stray Dog - Mirror is my favorite track of all time. Such a simple innocent melody that I just can't get enough of.

Strange that I started listening to electronic music properly in 2000, and yet I find the best era for trance and it's ilk was 1996, and the best era for electronic music was 1988-1994.

I started really listening to EDM a year ago and I think that there will never be years like 98 and 99 again.

I started clubbing in 2000, but my cousin started around 97. I used to go with him in those days here and there. Everyone i speak to today who was in the scene back in 98-99 says those are the glory years. But for me, my glory years are now. Let's stop bitching about that year being better than that year and enjoy thi year and the next because in 10 years they will all be your best years. Did that make sense?

Man I wish I was into trance back then, I really got into the scene 2 years ago; going to the clubs, listening to the music, seeing the big name djs, etc. Around that time, I was into the synthpop/ industrial scene. Nowadays trance is all I listen to. I got some sets from 1999 or so, I'll check it out but it's not going to bring memories to me like it does to some of you guys.
