Oh come on. You have the entire trance back catalogue since the dawn of time to select a tune for a newbie, and you choose this one first?!

I suggest you do some more listening yourself! There's a lot more to hear!

Okay. For the broad picture, it is not that bad to get a few live-sets from different years. It has already been mentioned that the "Paul Oakenfold World Tour 1999" is a good start. 12-live-sets from around the world. Then it is definitely a good idea to look for live-sets from the first half of the Nineties. Old-skool Trance / Techno for that time. Look at themixingbowl.org for more information.

For the time since 2000 I cannot give you a serious recommendation because Trance gets more and more fuzzy and different styles are going in. Trance is as-of-today a rather broad thing between Pop and Electro and HipHop (but not as broad as House). But anyway, I have two recommendations for you. The first is the maybe best live-set in the year 2005 (Oakeys Orange Hours, the Paul Oakenfold Queensday 2005 Mix at the end of March 2005, look for it) and then, second, also look at DI.FM and tune in in the different free mp3-streams they have to offer. Then you get an idea what you really like the most and what not.....

if you go on limewire or something, search for "Live at (or @) trance energy" - There are plenty other parties to look for too, but that happens to be my personal favorite. You can get live DJ sets, about an hour long to listen to, it's cooler that way than just listening to a bunch of songs by themselves.

Thanks for your responses, everyone. I think perhaps it's worth mentioning I've heard stuff from all over the EDM spectrum by now, from DJ Sammy (barf) to Astral Projection (I like). Also, I've got Tranceport w/ Oakenfold, ATB - DJ in the Mix, random Tiesto stuff, and a few albums by Juno Reactor, Infected Mushroom, and Astral Projection. I actually dig the psy/goa stuff quite a bit, but other trance is good as well.

And don't worry about scaring me off with minimalistic stuff - if you've heard a Darkthrone or Ildjarn track, you know that if I like that stuff I've got a high tolerance for pain.

And, surprisingly to me, I haven't heard even 5% of the tracks alot of you have mentioned. I have heard all of yours, DJ Sid. And BTW, I'm a she.

Sit down son.

Your response would have looked a bit more sensible if you'd left out the insults.

Now to my point. All I was trying to say is that it's better if you offer up a bit of a selection for the newbie rather than a barrage of similar styled tunes.
