I wasn't trying to offend you, I was trying to get your annoying little rants out of this thread. I'm not really interested in what you think I'm doing with this thread, because all it is is an expression of my frustration on a subject which I've repeatedly ranted about on this site. If that's a bandwagon then that's a bandwagon. Either way, either add to the thread or piss off.

We need to make a new name for the guys that play the music instead of "DJ". Every newbie thinks it means producer.

Let's make up something that can't be misinterpreted, like "Music-playing people".

You didn't offend me, I just think your "expression" of your frustration sucks because it's all over the boards right now and we really don't need new threads repeating the same message that's in 5 other places right now. Not only that, but you insult the fuck out of your intended audience, coming off as a complete ass who's just trying to cash in on looking cool by shitting on the TA Top 100 list. Also, welcome to the internet, where people can flame you if they want, asshat.

It baffles me why people think that DJ and producer means the same thing. Is it ignorance to what a DJ actually is, or is it just a case of "I want to add my opinion even though I don't know enough"?

That said, the fact that every DJ and their mother will whack out a shite sample-track or sequencer-lead record just to raise their profile doesn't help.

I think you should consider both things when voting on an important survey like DJMag. When I think of the word "DJ" I see it as a synonym for "EDM artist". It is very important then to consider the artist skills as a DJ (technical skills, crowd interaction, etc) but it is equally important to consider the artist skills as a producer (remixes, productions, originality, etc).
Both things are so relevant on a EDM artist that you can't just ignore the production skills.

Because at least newbies (maybe others also) never ever heard or read that DJ is just an abbreviation of something else....

It's because artists release albums under the "DJ" title. DJ Sammy for example, and DJ Tiesto. If everybody cut the "DJ" from their names when they're not DJ'ing, the problem would be solved.

Jesus, if they don't know that they shouldn't be voting.

Sigh. I could equally say that you're just trying to garner a bit of attention by accusing everyone in site of bandwagon jumping, because your personality is too bland to be noticable if you didn't act overtly annoying. But then again, like you I don't know anything about who I'd be attacking, I'd be making massive assumptions and I'd come across as fucktard. Hint, hint.

Well it isn't. It means "disc jockey" which means "person who plays music". There are countless EDM artists out there who don't DJ, in fact most of the best producers aren't DJs. By your parameters, an act like Faithless would be one of the best "DJs" in the world, because their live shows are utterly electrifying and they make some of the best productions in the business. Only problem with that is that Faithless is a group.

Or maybe the fact that you're not going to accomplish anything with this thread other than have a stroke fest with everyone complaining about the top 100.

Instead of being a prick about the outcome, why not try to HELP the community instead of complaining like everyone else seems to do on TA? If you're really THAT concerned with the list, make a fucking FAQ on what constitutes a DJ, or speak with those tho ran the poll with PMs to try to IMPROVE the poll for next year instead of bleeding all over TA. I'm sorry I'm not here to add another hand to this stroke fest. This whole 'fuck the community' mentality sucks because it's asshats like you that hurt TA overall instead of stepping in and trying to HELP it. Are you really THAT surprised by the outcome that a lot of TAers are in fact, uneducated, about DJing and the like? People are just going to vote for whoever they like best in every aspect until they know better.

I know DJ means Disk Jockey. But we are not in the 80's anymore. If you take the term Disk Jockey explicitly then you should leave out artists who mixes on laptops for example, not meaning that they aren't DJs.

Faithless is not a DJ as a whole. They produce but they don't spin.

In contrast, there can be a "bedroom DJ" who has amazing spinning skills, but if he has never produced a single work, he doesn't deserve a high spot on a top 100 djs list.

As I said before, both things should be equally important. It can be sad if an excellent producer who occasionally spins, is left out of the list (i.e. legendary producer Oliver Lieb). And it can be also very sad if a "bedroom DJ" who has undoubtly better spinning skills than any other top 10 DJ is left out because he hasn't produced a single work.

The fair thing to do is to have both aspects in mind.

And you're going to accomplish what with whining about it in this very thread?

What the hell do you think we're discussing in this thread? Anybody who reads this is gonna get a clear picture of what parameters a DJ should be voted for, aren't they?

Don't give me that "people like you are harming TA" crap, because that's blatant "I care for this community, now praise me" attention-seeking. You flaming me for flaming others is hypocrisy. If you think flaming should be cut out of TA, then don't respond to flames. Fuelling a flame thread by flaming in it isn't very high and mighty is it shogun?

I'd say it's dickheads like you who encourage people to shoot their opinion off when they don't know what they're talking about that is dragging TA down, and cultivating a general consensus that people here are blind fanboys.

And to paraphrase: this is the Internet, where people can rant if they want, asshat.
