I think its okay the way it is, most event threads tend to end up in discussions not really related to the event anyway.

As long as the self promo thread is used properly.

then how do we stamp out people making threads to promote their night, without making any other contribution to ta?

Thats a fair point. Are you not able to simply state in the rules of thread posting that if they are not regular contributers their threads will be removed?

I'm with Nutter, I don't think it'd work to try and compress all of the event threads into one, given that there could be up to 10 events upcomming or just passed at a time, it would get far to cluttered, and there would be confusion as to which event people were refering, when they ask questions or make comments.

Plus a thread like this would blowout to hundreds of pages mightly quickly, seperate threads for events are needed, perhapps if swamper can organise an events subforum, and have a [Mel] or [Syd] tag at the start of the thread title.. just an idea.

Without the event threads to perpetuate intelligent conversation (in some cases anyway) what's left is just a bunch of waffle really "Soups... discuss" etc.

As to seperating out the influx of promotion threads, perhapps a guidelines sticky at the top of the page indicating that only members with 'supreme tranceaddict' status or something along those lines can start a promotions thread, if it gets a little grey, then it is just a forum afterall, just go with the popular opinion of the contributing members.

It worked last time because the front page all the events, it contained all the details so people didnt have to ask questions. As i said a subforum is apparently on the "to do list" for swampie. I agree to a rules sticky but i want everyone to kinda come to the same conclusion about the rules to make it fair for everyone. As for who can post promo threads, there used to be something like you suggested. And there are ways of getting around that AJS1 used to pm me the details for unify and i used to post them ect so whose to say they wont do the same thing

As for the supreme status, there is enough spammin that goes on around here, it will only encourage the n00bs to post utter garbage so they can reach a point where they are entitled to make their own threads.

If you are refering to some kind of message board, similar to the inthemix 'what's on' section, where promoters can post up the details of an uncoming events then I'm all for it.
However I don't think the layout of vBulletin is suitable for such a thing, the discussion of the events would have to be in a seperate thread, otherwise, it would in essence be exactly the same situation we have now. The event thread would either become a cluttered mess, or there would be a seperate thread, simply containing a single post for each upcoming event, and a seperate discussion thread of the event.

I suppose that the promoters who want to exploit these boards will find a way, either by spamming relentlessly, or by asking a contact or theirs to initiate the thread. I reckon there needs to be some sort of guidelines as to who can or can't start promotion threads, I'm not suggesting that it be jeft up to a single person to judge who is 'worthy'.
But that said, given the situation, there is room for movement for some initiative to lock threads that clearly arn't in the interest of TA members, as it is at the moment, it may be difficult to define set rules to who may create threads, but it would be exceptionally easy to identify which threads arn't in the general interest and take action to remove them.

I propose a middle ground to these two extremes, more... guidelines as the promotion privilages rather than rules set in concrete.

you hit the thread delete button!

an alternative would be to have a 'whats-on this month' sticky for the hit-n-run promoters, whilst maintaining a list of 'authorised' promoters on au.ta who are allowed to create threads to promote their own events (obsession, 5am, unify, anot, etc etc).

you are more than welcome to post threads about your night, but there are two rules you must think about first:

1) you may only regularly promote a night in here if you are an active and participating member of the forum or have made some sort of significant contributions in the past. if anyone posts regularly about their night, and nothing else, action will be taken.

2) only post a thread once a month (maybe twice if the night is more regular like weekly)

3) Bumping of events is strictly prohibited. Offending posts will be deleted. Information updates to an event are allowed within reason. Fake accounts for the purpose of bumping threads will be deleted.

4) promoting of free parties is allowable regardless as the posters are not posting to have any commercial gain.

i was kinda thinking of making something like this thread
and once someone posts a party its added to the list then their post is deleted.
