Hey, big thanks. I won't be buying this hardware for a while, since I'm DJing to fund my production, but in six months or so I'll definitely look into your recommendations. (And no, I wasn't going to let whatever I buy go to waste. I've never let anything gather dust that cost me more than 200 dollars. ;D)

I saw this thread and just had to jump in...

I just bought a Novation A station new for $249. IT IS AWESOME! the best bass sound quality I've ever heard. I took me only 3 days to learn how to use it (which is nothing compared to most synths). Geeze it sounds like I'm trying to sell it, but I'm just super exicted about it.

IMO the V-Synth (like the Korg Triton) is an overpriced all-in-wonder toy for LA producers and back up stage keyboardists that don't have time to dig deep into sound creation. Not for electronic musicians trying to push the boundries of creativity. Also I think having multiple synths gives you a wider sonic range and gives a better quality sound.

Also, why pay for an onboard sequencer and sampler, we don't need that, that's what software is for.

As for the JP8080, it's cool, but it is getting very overused and old now.

For Pads/strings I've been on the look out for an analog Roland MKS-80 Super Jupiter. That thing has the best pads possible. Though I do love the Korg wavestation and 01/w pads.

jp8 and prophet 5 with ssm kills the the mks80..... not saying the mks80 is bad is amazing!! but check this out

Damn dude! no way I could afford one of those. That is a work of art. Those samples you linked were nice. The mks is a little more in my price range though.
