So it looks like all you need to make Techno is a drumcomputer.
Trance without the synths and melody would be Techno again?
Example: Safri Duo - Played A Live

To avoid stupid discussions (again):

Rave: Raver Nature - Stop Scratchin

Rave was perfect for making large crowds wild! Love Parade, Mayday.
It was a substyle out of Techno in the 90's.
It's perfect to blast the roof of a building.
Try to find: Sensation - The anthem 2004 in .mpg
Probably close to Hard Trance nowadays, but a little bit less Trancie.

Old School: Name for the early Hardcore, was very popular in Holland.
Rotterdam Termination Source - Poing
http://www.discogs.com/release/49692
Notice the style which is mentioned at this site.

Early work of The Prodigy to my view should be called Techno, but was in development, because they experimented a lot. It's not trance and not really rave, not hardcore.
(No Good, One Love.)

Dance is not a style, allthough at festival like Werchter in Belgium, Roskilde in Danmark and Pinkpop in Holland, bands like Underworld and Chemical Brothers are called Dance.
Rockers of course don't want Techno, House or Rave.

Dance is music on which you can dance, so practically covers it all.

List the names of artists you listen to, then we can classify what you like.

i suppose yes. since trance is an offspring of techno its natural that without all the synths and effects it would become techno. but you can't just take a random trance tune and remove the melodies and make it into a techno tune. techno is made in a completely different way than trance. other things to keep in mind.

prodigy have never been techno.

they have always had their own perculiar brand of breakbeat hardcore and breakbeat. the early experience stuff is alot like other types of breakbeat hardcore in the early/mid 90s like phuture assassins. later on they kind of developed their own sound and its hard to call their stuff anything other than say its just liam howlett's own brand of breakbeat.

and people have got to stop quoting that listology site for a definition of techno and trance. its an utter pile of crap and its obvious the writer hates techno.

you really dont need definitions at all. you just need to pop over to www.juno.co.uk and listen to the soundclips in the techno and trance section. then buy the records that you like the sound of. over time you'll have (voila!) a record collection!

This is great! There is no counting how many times I've had to explain to my friends why techno is NOT trance and vice versa. these samples do a very good job of illustrating the differences. I need that Chakra tune by the way, I'm a huge fan of the Space Brothers' work!

the listology definition is pretty good IMO but definitely biased against techno. still, you can't deny what he says is true... if you're a techno fan, you love the genre despite it's simplicity and lack of popular success, no? Or do you love it BEACUSE of those things?
