Mr Buddy Tree, whenever you are denied something, anything, because of a credit report you are entitled to a copy of that credit report. Upon acquiring a copy of the credit report you can write a letter to the credit agency detailing the dispute. The credit agency MUST reflect the dispute, upon receiving written notification, in your credit report.

You also should send written request to the bank with copies of supporting documentation and demand that they remove the erroneous charge from your credit report. After sending your written demand, you NEED to follow up. Once the error is corrected, you should also request written confirmation from the bank that they made an error and that they have corrected the error with ALL credit reporting agencies (not just the one used by the potential employer to deny your application for employment).

If you feel that you have been damaged (i.e. suffered financially, physically (stress) and emotionally) because of their error, you could hire an attorney and file suit. Because you're a peon and the bank is a huge corporation, the attorney will probably want you to pay a retention fee versus just charging 25 - 50% of any potential settlement.

You could sue the bank in small claims court and you would probably win a nominal judgement if you are able to prove that the sole reason you were denied the job is because of the one negative posting on your record.
