GUARENTEED that's your problem...

Dood... do yourself a favour and buy a legit production sound card. Forget Audigy... they're made for gaming. If you're short on cash, M-Audio makes a great series raging from $200+ (Audiophile or Delta series). If you can spare the cash, maybe get into an EMU card. You'll no longer be using emulated ASIO drivers and would be processing audio data properly.

I bet your computer would run like a dream.

is it also possible that this new soundcard would help Cubase? ive tried all versions of cubase and this is what happens:
it either:
1. freezes when i open a 16 midi track
or
2. wont even load/open cubase

is it possible its the soundcard again?
cause i tried a non on board real good sound card my friend gave me once, and cubase did the same thing?!?! froze at the 16 midi track opening...

I think the most important thing besides having a decent sound card... is the drivers. If your pc can't process the audio properly through the drivers it's using, your computers gonna sloooooooooow riiiiight down. If the sound card isn't designed for audio/production in mind, it will repeat processes irrationally and illogicaly... and that's when your pc can't keep up. If your sound card and drivers can process the audio properly the first time, your computer will run just fine.

This goes for Cubase as well. Get a proper ASIO sound card... and you'll be just fine.

It would help to know what version of Reason you are using. Secondly, like everyone has already said, get a real soundcard, not the built in piece of shit onboard sound that is murderous to producing.

I agree with tygon, a drivers problem. I remember I got the same problems some times ago, reason freezes and sounds horrible, and the cpu goes out the limit. that happened using reason2.5, with an audiophile firewire sound card, I reinstalled the drivers, updated them and everything turned normal.

Well, if Reason is giving you problems and Cubase is freezing than it's very likely a driver issue. Try Asio4All if you don't have them.

Oh, and if you're looking for a new sound card, I recommend M-Audio, those things are great, cheap and reliable I have a Delta 44 myself, couldn't be happier with it

well, I dont recommend M-Audio at all, I said I own a 24/96 Audiophile firewire and except of driver problems, sometimes it crashes when I plug in another hardware in another firewire port, like an external hard drive or other devices.
Also I don't know if other m-audio card owners have the same problem.
