Tiesto's sets are just sub standard for a top DJ. Poor transitions, same old track selection(mostly his stuff), and really doesnt do much in terms of innovation in terms of DJing.

So all the new tracks I heard this year by Armin (Yes, I heard new ones in other sets too, but I also heard new productions in some of his) don't actually exist? Sure you can hear some of the same songs in his sets, but if that kind of music is your style, it sounds good.

I will agree that Tiesto doesn't seem to be as creative, and he really does play his productions out heavily. Regardless, he still has fun music to listen to here and there. I honestly haven't heard a damn thing from him this year. I don't think I have a single new set by him, and definetly no productions. Which furthermore proves that the DJ Magazine contest is truly popularity, but that was also proven through the awesome Mikey experiment.

I don't think that necessarily relates to the topic starters question.

It's just that it's not 'cool' to say how kickass that last ASOT or ISOS CD was because regular people buy those too. It's much cooler to publicly promote obsucre producers of off genres of trance (the more you can list, the better... all their aliases dating back to ~1965 too!) and be a closet fan. (apologies to those to whom this does not apply, I know you're out there too)

bottom line is, all the people who love tiesto and armin got flamed into oblivion (remeber the tiesto hate parade a few years ago?), so now few of them post anymore, leaving techno and prog aficionados to rule the place. but don't believe they're gone.. have a look at the TA top 100!

Good post.

I was actually surprised (albeit slightly disgusted) with the TA top 100, considering the amount of EDM-Nazis on here... but I suppose there aren't actually a lot of those people around; they just make more posts and make more of a scene in every thread.

Considering the fact that the terms "EDM Nazi" and "haters" get thrown around so much, it's obvious that the majority of ASOT listeners and Tiesto fans do not give two shits about whether it's "cool" to like these things or not. Why would there be such a massive clash of opinions here if the ASOT and Tiesto fans did not express how much they love the stuff?

I think maybe theres an element of "tall poppy syndrome" at work too.

Each to their own though, people shouldnt be closeting any support of a particular artist simply because others dont like them.

Well..there's trance, and then there's the stuff Armin/Tiesto play.

It's somewhat analogous to how there's sushi.......and then there's california rolls.

If you don't understand....I give you about nine months.

When I hear a no-name DJ craft a trance set equally on par with your typical Tiestin van Corstenfolds, it begs the question what they've got that No-Name doesn't.

And the answer is... MARK-ET-ING.

This is where a large amount of 'hate' gets thrown at the superstar DJs. Through the sheer power of their Publicity Teams, they have mangaged to create a deity-like aura around them, reducing the dance-music experience to spectating as you go to see them, ************ of the music. Yes, you have to at least enjoy what they play to some extent, but there are countless folks out there that play damned near identical stuff. The only difference is they are not celebrities.

Folks who enjoy the music for it's own sake see the Cirque de Tiesto experience as ludicrus.

add to that their productions. tiesto wouldnt be half the "star" he is without his artist albums. granted his earlier mix albums were good too but it was flight 643 and traffic and all that shit he plays in every single one of his sets that his fans go to see him for. the sad thing is theyre going to see him spin his own tracks, not play them.
