Can I explain the rest of the story?
On trance.cz (a similar forum to this one but for Czechs!) there is now lengthy topic of dis-gruntled fans who are going to either boycott this event or simply turn up in various t-shirts or with large banners just to piss Tiesto off.
I hope it puts his feet firmly back on the ground, being boo'ed off the stage like some gimp, not knowing why on earth they (for once) don't appreciate his ass.
Even the event organisers United Music, have tried to calm them down, and come to some kind of truce - by re-booking MIKE at the next Transmission party with Ferry Corsten in February. They also announced they will be revealing the full reasons for this atrocity, BUT only AFTER the gig itself. Bribery to not mis-behave? I think so...
damn these bastards.

I wouldn't say MIKE has produced any classic trance tunes. There are trance records that even none trance-heads will remember. Age of Love, Acperience, Stella, Café del Mar, Dark & Long, Flaming June, Xpander etc. There's no one MIKE track that has recognition across the spectrum. He's just produced so damn much that a couple of his tracks hit the right formula. MIKE isn't a genius, he's just competent and prolific. |
I cannot agree with this. Universal Nation, Strange World not classics? That's simply ridiculous.
Mike is responsible for some of most anthemic trance there ever has been, there's no debating that.

I've been listening to trance for five years, and I've bought loads of retrospective compilations, but I've never heard it, and when you ask around, it's far less well-known than any of the genuine classics. It's a genre-track. |
Oooh, for the full 5 years even
Come man, I know I might be biased as a Mike superfan, but even the biggest Mike hater must admit that tracks like Sunrise At Palamos, Universal Nation, Strange World or The Legacy are true trance classics.
The fact that they frequently feature on lots of "classic" trance compilations (Innercity, Magik,...) says it all.
