It an audio interface for you PC/Mac, so yes, it's a soundcard

damn... It sucks to be me. there's really not much in my line up now that I wish I had, except TI Polar. Already have most of your list covered. Well, here's my take on your list:
Access TI keyboard - great choice, wait till prices come down a bit and every producer had the chance to regurgitate every sound in their track.
V-Synth XT - eye candy piece of junk. only if you get it for free (take cash instead, buy something useful).
jp-8080 - ah yes... a one-trick (ridden to death) pony. You should be ashamed for even lusting after this. It's like lusting after your friend's having a cell phone. JP lovers - SHUT IT, I DON'T WANT TO HEAR HOW GREAT IT IS. PLEASE, IT'S SO 90'S!
korg ms2000b - same comments as JP, and you should be smacked around just to make sure you're clear. BAD!
Jupiter 8 - Definitely a worthy aquisition. Like Ferris Bueler said: "If you have the means, I strongly recommend it. It is so choice!"
Oberheim MAtrix - be specific which one. There was a really amazing Matrix 12 or Xpander and there was also Matrix 6/1000. While name and some of the engineering thought were similar, the rest is different. Each deserves it's own place and all are stellar. Having owned both, 1000 and Matrix 12 - both pieces will remain with me for as long as they or I shall live. Do stay away from Viscount OB12 - total crap and should not be considered an oberheim!
Juno 6 - Not a bad intrument but owershawdowed by Jupiter 8. Sold my Jupe 6 recently and without much regret.
Clavia Nord lead 3 - See my honest opinion obout NL3 here: http://www.tranceaddict.com/forums/...threadid=304019
Waldorf Q - Hold no defined opinion, however, my experience with it in the store left me unimpressed. Really overshawdowed by other better gear. Let's put it this way - part of waldorf's technology made it into Virus Ti. Can you guess which part????
Korg Triton - great name, if used in context of "trite". Not a bad machine or rompler but can be entirely substituted by decent computer, midi controller and NI Kontakt. Nothing special, IMHO.
Allen & Heath Xone:S6. - Ok, now we're talkin'...
Adam P22A. 80 W x 2 - May I suggest more earthly M-Audio BX5a??? In an extensive side-by-side comparisson at my friend's stuio, we both arrived at conclusion that soundwise they are virtually identical! Oh, and you'll keep about $1500 extra in your pocket too!
99999999 Ghz P4 with 9999gigs of ram - hm... great pick. this would also solve any heating problems you may have this winter. Summer time - well, that's a different story. ;-)
bottom line - great picks but not really needed nowdays. I do have a Jupe 8 and it is probably the only piece I'd keep if I had to sell everything else... It is in pristine condition - I mean AS NEW, no joke... but I paid top buck for it. $3300, to be exact. Is it worth it??? Only if you realy REALY REALY love analog sound and know what to expect. Also, each JP8 sounds slightly different too. Age, condition it was kept in, and so on impact the sound, belive it or not. It is trully the only "organic" instrument I own. By organic I mean unique in a sense like a guitar can be unique.
Bottom line - don't buy gear just because someone said you should have it or it sounds like so and so. Some of the most hyped gear turned out to be junk (see V-Synth XT) and some of the most underrated turned out to be gold (Read about E-Mu PX-7 or other command stations).
Cheers!

And that is as it should be, because Death is very likely the single best invention of Life. It is Life’s change agent. It clears out the old to make way for the new. Right now the new is you, but someday not too long from now, you will gradually become the old and be cleared away. Sorry to be so dramatic, but it is quite true. |
