A cool evening
Was hoping to see the review thread come up anytime soon and could've bet my last dollar that it's gonna be from ClubGoddess
And before i forget, it would be good if someone IDed that track which went something like "I am just man". I must've danced like crazy on that track. Not that i don't dance like crazy otherwise!
I was there around 11:00 and the place looked freakin empty - i had to confirm that Sander K was indeed gonna be coming. Carlos Mendoza had quite a sedate start playing some looseners and some real mediocre stuff until like 11:45 or so before he started to not only pick up the tempo but also some good mixes. He really got it going past the midnight and quite made up for the listless beginning.
The club icon - it was my first time there - seemed okay. They can do with somewhat better sound system though. What was interesting though was, there didn't seem too many "drunk-chick" hunters. The crowd was pleasant and mostly trancers who seemed to enjoy their dance. And yes, the bartenders were nice .
Baby Anne, supposedly florida's "heart throb" DJ was present too. It seemed like she was with her boyfriend and enjoying her evening like the rest of us. Didn't find too many people bothering her which was surprising considering everytime she comes to the Amphitheater, she seems to have guys go beserk. Seems like she is not that popular in her hometown or maybe she was just keeping a low profile.
I saw Sander K arrive, thanks to ClubGoddess who had informed me earlier that "he would be getting out of the the elevator anytime soon".
To be very honest, i am neither a big fan of his nor know much about him except for i think a "Who is Sander K" thread i had read on one of these forums sometimes back. But it did strike me that he was really patient with all the photo-shoot sessions and obliged almost anyone and everyone who bothered to approach. It's always good to see someone being so modest.
He played mostly good mixes but there were some very mediocre ones too. The particular mix of Perasma- Swing to Harmony was almost awful. It seemed to have killed that beautiful track! A couple of mixes i couldn't ID were really good. One more thing, he maintained a good tempo throughout but i was hoping he would raise it as the night went by - something that he didn't do. Of course, everything that he did was lapped up and cheered for by all, including me .
And just before the end or prior to the last track that he played, he tried something that didn't really work out. He was trying something funky with the mixer and crowd stood still waiting and hoping that something big was about to come out, and it didn't happen. Was a bit of an anti-climax.
And these little things get noticed only because there is high expectation from someone is is regarded that highly among his contemperories.
Otherwise, he was fantastic and it was a wonderful evening.
And yes, i would've loved to meet some TAs from this forum. Just didn't know where or how to find them. Maybe the next time.
