Not on hand no. I will try and look for some stats. I just used some of my own experiences, and that of those who I have talked to(who are unfortunately involved in crime). So its more of testimony, than cold hard facts. But again, I will look to see if I can back this up.
Yes, you are right that random muggings and robberies can easily escalate to violence.
mushyflowa, I hope you are ok, and I hope they did not hurt you. I did not want to sound insensitive, but this is just how I look at the problems. Fortunately, they did not use their guns against you, and I am guessing you did not give them any reason to. If you do feel unsafe in an area, then the right thing to do, is to move.
I would quote the media in reference to the victim's involvement in the original crime, but we know we cant trust the media, so I wont even go there.
