That changed everything. Compilation CDs were around before and after, but what changed everything was that it wasn't just another throwaway title like so many other rave mix discs were....It wasn't just Tranceport. It was OAKENFOLD PRESENTS TRANCEPORT. Just a simple little change of direction in marketing, and it suddenly hooked a new generation of gullible little poptarts, so engorged in the pop world of image, style, and album-oriented marketing....this was something they could sink their teeth in. This was something they could like. This was something they could enjoy. It wasn't another one of them faceless, nameless, bootleg trance CDs that the scene traded. It was legit. It was authoritative. It was OAKENFOLD.

In truth, the CD was actually pretty dismal. Most trance comps had more than a pitiful 11 tracks. 14 was the standard. People should've felt short-changed by this one, where the tracks go on too long, and mixing is non-existant, and there's no cohesion, care, quality, or purpose to any of it. Just a bunch of pop hits.

But man. Witness the power of marketing. Even today, people still look back and see it as the mix of nothing that changed everything. Why? Not because of the music, or the professionalism, or the quality, or the wealth and breadth and depth and power and epic, sweeping scope of the mix. But because of the name attached to it.

Why?

Good question. I guess, when it really comes down to it, people don't want to explore things on their own. They need to be told what to like, first, before they can go forth and enjoy liking it.

Hmmmm.

Um, I guess your version of tranceport is different than everyone else's if you have Oakie on the cover.

nothing u just said applies to me. in early '99 i was getting into the rave scene and was loving the music i heard. a g/f of mine brought TP along one night on the way to the club, didn't say anything except pop this in. that was it for me, i had never liked a cd so much up to that point. for me everything was fresh & new and i had no idea what was a hit or wasn't. i knew what i liked and that the EDM scene was relatively small in my area at the time, still is for the most part. i listened to this cd over & over again until i had memorized everything. this made me want to explore more of the same music and got me going in that direction. everyone has a different experience but look how many ppl had the same exp. w/tranceport, it's undeniable and whenever i listen to it fond memories come flooding back.

my question is do you think Oakenfold can sit down and commit to coming back to doing a straight forward trance mix? as well as blowing our minds again?

forget about it man, its a lost cause

is there a reason why Tranceport changes to Transport at the 4th compilation (with Christopher Lawrence)?
i'm making a site on the tranceport series and i don't know whether to include the series after 3.

actually transport 4 is max graham...

and they changed the naming because they felt that the sound of the series had change...it wasn't really exclusively trance anymore so they wanted the change.

email me buddy:

I want your album from 1999.
Oh wait nevermind.

The tunes on tranceport such as transa-enervate, energy 52, greece 2000, words,..........are what personify the year 1999. Its part of the main reason a lot of ta's became ta's. If you have a problem with it, then I guess lets talk about your achievements. Oh wait, the trance scene today is trash because it has morons like you in it. Good Job?
