I agree with Jayx1 on this one. But then again, I never was politically correct.

Oh, and I care. This is Canada, we're primarily a Christian country. Our holidays center around December 25th, which, the last time I checked, was Christmas. So we celebrate Christmas. Not the holidays. Nobody celebrates the holidays. That doesn't even make sense. WTF are you celebrating exactly by celebrating the holidays?

who cares??

people that practice their faith or at least HAVE faith care

and its said that the population of following Christians in Canada is somewhere around 60-70% (cant remember where i read that stat but it was in the star last year)

the whole tree, presents etc etc all came from the celebration of Christmas so if u want to have a tree, give gifts, anything of the such, at least address the gesture the way it should be.

if u dont care, why even celebrate "the holiday season"???

summer is a holiday season...why dont we give gifts then???hmmmm im gonna put up a holiday tree and decorate it in july next year

If companies want to sell me the idea of christmas and make money of it, they should at least have the guts to call it christmas.

Otherwise i wont shop there for christmas. its quite simple.

this is retarded....simple as that....
why change it? i don't understand! its not like they are going to change the name of a Menorah or a Kinara to "holiday Candle holders"... Chirstmas is like the ONLY holiday around that time of year that uses a tree ( that i know of) so what the eff is the point of changing it!
"Oh hunny.. they changed the name of the Christmas tree to a Holiday tree!"
"oh dear thats wonderful! well i guess we can throw out our Menorah and put out a tree finally!"

sooo is Dec. 25th now going to be known as Holiday Day?

yeah effin right

Nikitha

Okay, I haven't read the thread so please excuse me if this is out of context.

My thinking on the matter......
Does anyone actually get offended by the use of the word Christmas? I have muslim, jewish, athiest and hindu friends that celebrate Christmas.... CHRISTMAS, not the holidays. Granted, none of them view it as a religious holiday but Christmas has taken on a whole host of secular traditions in addition to the religious ones. Most of my non-Christian or evern non-observant Christian friends view Christmas as a time to spend with their families and celebrate being with their families (much the same way as thanksgiving has changed from a celebration of the harvest to a time for families to be together). None of these people are offended by the word Christmas and most of them actually refer to the holiday as Christmas.

I believe that the concern is more of a perceived concern by those Christians or persons of Christian heritage that suffer from the pervaisive "white guilt" that seems to be the echo of the former "whiteman's burdon". Please let us all take care not to blame any other religious or non-religious interest group for this controversy other then the overly sensitive amongst us that constantly seek to change things based on the fear of offending rather then the actual incidence of an offence.

ditto. i am so sick of people tiptoeing around everyone else, trying not to say something that someone might find offensive.

i had to design our stupid christmas card for work, but it couldn't have anything to do with christmas on it. can i get a WTF? we celebrate christmas! it's a christmas card. everyone knows that! if someone sent me a happy hannukah card, i certainly wouldn't get offended by it, even though that's not what i celebrate. ffs, stop the madness!!!!

83% Christian = 1.4% Eastern Orthodox = 84.4% have religious context for Christmas.
Numbers are based on the 1991 general census

1991? That was 14 years ago.
Between 1981 and 1991 there was a 7.5% decrease in the Christian population.
I would expect that rate of decrease to be even higher between 1991 and today.

I would have told them that i wasnt designing it then. Then i would have invoked religion as the reason why i couldnt make a "holiday card"

Fight fire with fire.
