Exactly. I don't think you're doing any emotional harm, rather you're giving kids the gift of anticipation, as well as a greater incentive to act on their best behavior.

Like Sweetbabydoll, we used to put out milk and cookies for "Santa and his Reindeer" and it was really cool to wake up and see it all gone. After we figured it out, we started leaving chips and beer for our parents. It was still fun to pretend, even though we knew what was up.

Well, I dunno, my parents never played the whole santa thing on me and I thought it was great because I felt so much smarter than other kids who thought santa brings them gifts and birds carry children around.
