Alright, this is going to sound weird....

A lot of people that listen to trance say that it is an emotional type of music. With it's melodies im sure you can see why someone would call it that. Though there is trance which pretty much KILLS the floor and has people crying for more, it still has a tune and melody that can send u on a "trip." a good example is Sasha- Xpander (Mjr project remix). oooo, good track. anyways, it has that good tempo for people to dance to and go nuts when the kick comes in during the massive breakdown but also has that tune to it that people can really look into so that they can somewhat "feel" the track and where it is trying to go. if u have never heard this track before in your life then here is a sample of it http://www.dancerecords.com/audio/56755.ram
it is the first track on there. it is a sample from dancerecords.com
hope this helps.....this is my opinion and everyone has their own.

i hope you are not going to say that you are going to tell them that Oceanlab makes great trance

to be fair they arent exactly specifically genre defining tracks...

if you check out that thread "name one specific trance tune" which was posted a few weeks ago Firedance was one of the tune most people mentioned as THE tune which defined trance.

I got an idea, the thread starter puts the famous video of paul van dyk live at mayday 2000, when it finishes, he say to class:
"ok people, that is trance and the effect on people. kthxbye."
