I absolutely loved this set...I've listened to it about 5 times already...It has that true 'get down' tribal feel, that dark progressive feel...I really like that. The flow is nice. I am one who normally listens to trance/progressive but I do like tribal so I gave this a chance - I was very pleased!

I'd like to hear more stuff like this...

Can anybody recommend DJs who have a style much like this? All I can think of is Deep Dish, Hernan Cattaneo, maybe Sander K. - I'm not really atuned to the progressive scene as I am with trance, but this style - I absolutely love it...

Thanks for making some really great music...or mixing it at least...

Need help finding similar music...I want more to listen to.
Please advise.

Thanks a tone for the feedback Ward! Glad you got into the mood of the set. Its very hard to find tracks like these that fit so well together. Steve Lawler is known for his dark tribal beats but the man said it himself, theres just not enough good Tribal out there to compile many great sets which is why he has switched up his style. I will be working on a new demo and it will have that dark progressive and tribally feel to it as well (just waiting to get paid to buy the tracks).

Thanks alot for your feedback scamsel. I did check out your review and replied back in Scott's thread a few days back. Appreciate the negative feedback but I'm not sure what you mean by my mixing being predictable? When I reviewed Scott's set, I thought his mixing was XLNT but since I like a energetic set weather it be an opening/closing or 2am set. Personal preference, I thought some of the tracks were quite boring but it is just more or less because its not my style. As for my soundcard I was using the RCA inputs on my Soundblaster X-Fi Platinum. Now I'm not sure what kind of speakers you listened to it on but I have been getting mixed reviews. Myself and others have listened to the set on certain speakers and hear clipping all throughout the set, but on other speakers like my STALK car stereo it sounds crystal clear and no distortion. I have identified the problem and it IS the effects on my XP10 Controllers (so much for experimenting with effects). Maybe I need gold-plated RCA but I'm not entirely sure why they cause clipping/distortion as they act as an external soundcard that hooks directly up to my mixer. As for the panning, double flipping, echoing I would definately agree I went a little overboard with the effects but as I did state I had been messing around at the time and wanted to see how these new effects sounded (both built in on my mixer and the ones on my controllers). The last 40 mins of the set that was cut off I did not use any effects. Also, glad to see your the first one who spotted the bad bass transition from track 7 to 8 (I thought I was the only one who noticed it). I wouldn't say it was a trainwreck but it definately wasn't pretty

I would appreciate it if you could test this out in your car and see if the distortion/clipping is highly noticable on your system but keep in mind most people have the EQ's and Bass WAY too high as is (EQs should be dead center in the middle as this IS already mixed). I never once put the bass past 0db.. except for the 3 MP3 songs used the remaining tracks shouldn't have terribly distorted bass.

And for those of you wondering what my setup looks like or what I mean by XP10 Controllers:

AH, fair enough, now i understand more about your set. sorry i was just being a bit of a jerk too since scott is my good friend (and i personally love everything he puts out, not BECAUSE he is my good friend though.)

but yeah, i really don't get teh clipping, it was quite noticeable in some of the songs, i wish it was cleaned up somehow, as i would keep it on my ipod if it was. i actually did like the hypnotic, overall sound of the set, very much like a hernan sound, but just that the basslines are too distracting because of the distortion.

as far as what i meant about predictable mixing, i just meant that i can tell when you are about to bring in a new song, like when listening to the set, it's just very predictable when the mixing will come in and out as far as the timing and phrasing. i don't know, hard to explain. like if you listen to a hernan set, i you never see the mixes coming, like he usually doesn't mix in and out when right when a new sound is coming in or out of the song.

I really don't understand why it causes clipping either but thats computers for you -- I haven't had a chance to see hernan live and haven't found too many of his livesets so I don't really know how he mixes.. but thanks for regarding it to be "very much like a hernan sound"

ahh I understand.. its because I like slowly melting tracks together.. but your right, some of the transitions dragged on as I was caught sleeping at the decks a couple times .. I suppose hernan must have quicker cuts regardless...

Anyways, thanks for the feedback and I'm working on getting this clipping issue sorted out so I can have a quality set.

Yes, please...I REALLY enjoyed this set...but the audio seems like it's peaking levels all throughout the set, it seems like it was recorded very LOUD and the audio is peaking over the red and maxxing out, causing it to distort the bass and the drumlines...this is really apparent in the louder parts of the mix....

Man, this is one of the best sets I have downloaded off TranceAddict, it's just my style of sound, I however DID put this one on my iPod, but I was really hoping you would get your levels right and remix this so that it sounds pristine...I just love this set so much...

Just thought I would give you some input in time for Christmas...lol

Hey man I have really enjoyed this mix so much I'm just waiting for your next one!! I just regret that the levels are peaking so much in the mix, other than that it sounds excellent...I've probably played it over 50 times...

very sorry but I have been working 12hr shifts 6 days a week for the last couple of months so im pretty pressed on time these days.. you will have to bare with me for a little while. However, for the meantime I'm posting a link to one of my older mixes made in SOFTWARE only. Its a very melodic upbeat 2am in the club banging trance mix... technically flawed but you will like the track selection im sure
