Never done drugs and I would say ny childhood was "normal" if there are any. Does that support your theory? Oh, wait it does.

This was not my big surprise.

I'd say my upbringing was pretty good and I don't do drugs and barely drink. However, my sister was a pothead when I was little and my dad used to be a huge pothead back when he was younger. So I dunno, I think most people try drugs, but I think the ones who do them habitually have some sort of problem.

I was raised pretty strict throughout my youth so once I got to college I basically just threw myself right into the madness and never looked back!

sometimes a bad childhood keeps you away from drugs.

However, i'd say it is likely that a "bad" childhood increases the chances of one exercising "bad" habits in one's adult life like drug abuse, sexual promiscuity, violence, and/or other mental disorders. Whichever best reflects either what made one's childhood "bad" or what helped one cope with it. Not that one is guaranteed to cause the other, though.

Agreed. I've had a pretty messed up childhood, but I don't do (illegal)drugs except for experimentation. Sure I've got my problems, but drugs isn't one of them. I think it's just that people who internalize their emotions (like men are socially conditioned to) are more prone to substance abuse, but might just as well 'let it out' by a number of other different means. So yeah, it's definately a factor, but it's not the most important one by a long shot. I think it just has more to do with having a liberal personality, or the need to rebel.
